Use your air fryer for something other than fried foods and toss together this scrumptious Air Fryer Blueberry Apple Crumble. This recipe consists of fresh blueberries combined with a touch of lemon zest and topped with a buttery crumble. A super easy and quick dessert recipe for your air fryer.
Can I just say that no matter the time of year, I’m all about baking tasty sweet recipes. Sure, it has the potential to heat up the house during the summer, but I’m all for the bit of extra heat and suffering for the end result.
Besides, when I wake up and make things like Raspberry Almond French Toast or Homemade Monkey Bread, my kids seem to love me even more (somehow). It definitely adds a skip to their step for the day, and mine.
However, there are days where I enjoy quick and easy sweet treats as well. This apple blueberry crumble is currently at the top of my list to fulfill that need.
How Do You Make an Airfryer Crumble from Scratch?
- Prep the Blueberries - Place the blueberries in the pan. Mix the applesauce, zest, sugar, and vanilla, then spread it over the berries.
- Add the Streusel - Mix the ingredients for the topping and add it to the pan.
- Bake - Bake for 15 minutes in your air fryer or until golden brown on the top. Enjoy!
Tips and Variations
- What size pan do I use? - I used a Philips XL air fryer. This allowed me to use a 7-inch round pan. If your air fryer won’t fit a 7-inch pan, simply adjust and use a pan that fits it.
- Swap out the lemon zest - This streusel recipe is great for all seasons. However, to make it more fitting, replace the zest for fall and winter seasons.
- Add nuts - Add some chopped pecans, walnuts or almonds to the topping for a nice crunch!
- Can I use frozen blueberries? - Of course! You’ll simply want to cook it at 320 degrees instead of 360 degrees, and add 5 minutes to the cooking time, for a total of 20 minutes.
- Can I make this ahead? - Crumble tastes best when it’s slightly warm or at room temperature, but you can keep any leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days. Please cover it thoroughly. You can reheat the crumble in your microwave or put it in the airfryer if you want the topping to get crunchy again.
- Can I freeze blueberry crumble? - This can be frozen either baked or unbaked. You might want to freeze the baked version in single servings so that you may take out only what you need. Allow it to thaw at room temperature before eating, or reheat in your airfryer to re-create the crispy top. You may freeze this unbaked as well. The crumble topping and filling can be frozen whole or separately.
Common Questions About Air Fryer Blueberry Apple Crumble
Can You Put Frozen Fruit in the Air Fryer?
Yes, as long as it’s contained in something. For example, you don’t want to just dump frozen fruit straight into the air fryer as that could not only ruin the fruit, but cause a crazy mess. Be sure your fruit is inside a dish, pie crust, etc. This will save it and the air fryer.
How Do I Make My Air Fryer Crisp?
An air fryer will crisp all on its own. The trick is to use the right settings when making certain foods. It has to be cooked at the right temperature and for the correct amount of time, just like an oven. For this recipe, in order to make the top a little crispy, simply follow the directions and setting. You’ll end up with a delicious and crispy dessert if you do!
Can I make an air fryer crumble in the oven?
Absolutely! You can bake this recipe at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes or until topping is golden brown!
