About 6 months ago, my family and I moved into our new home. We had been in our previous apartment for 8+ years. If you have ever lived in an apartment for a long period of time than you know that people come and go. We would go through waves of cool neighbors to boring not say "hello" type of neighbors.
The last year we were there, we had the best neighbors ever. Every Friday night we would meet at the community picnic tables and enjoy a neighborly bbq. It was something we looked forward to every week. Once a month we would pick a theme and design a menu around that particular theme.
As we had experienced with many others whom had moved away from the apartments, we wanted to avoid loosing contact. Since moving, we have hosted a couple of Sunday afternoon BBQ's. However with kids and busy schedules, it has been quite some time since we saw our friends. So had the brilliant idea of leaving a small token of remembrance on their door step as well as an invitation to an upcoming BBQ.
With Coke relaunching their personalized bottles at Walmart, I was able to find most of my neighbor's names in the coolers located in the front of the stores. Walmart also has the largest selection of 20 ounce named bottles. They have created new bins full of the bottles, however the soda isles are the most organized places to find the names. Here is a list of Walmart stores where you can find a large quantity of personalized Coca Cola bottles to share with someone this Summer! If your store is not on the list you can still find these bottles at all Walmart locations.
For the names that I couldn't find, I added a small can of Coke instead. I wrapped up the bottles with a little noted and invitation and tied them with a bow. That way, the next time they all got together for Friday night bbq they would think of us.
On the day that they actually came over to hang out, I made my favorite dish! This Pulled Pork BBQ Sandwich recipe is not only flavorful and delicious, but it is easy and full proof! I simply combine a bunch of spices, pat it onto the pork butt, pour a small can of Coke over and turn the slow cooker on high for about 6 hours. It is the best recipe for cooking for a crowd!
When the pork butt is fully cooked, simply shred add some BBQ sauce, and voila! A perfect meal to rekindle friendships!
