Buttermilk Sugar Cookies with Maple Frosting

 Oh my goodness can you believe it is already November???!?!? I bet you are thinking, YAY no more pumpkin recipes right? Sorry, there are still more. I bought a bit too many cans of pumpkin this year :)

But, in an effort to switch it up a bit I thought I would provide you with a fun cookie recipe. The base of these cookies are the same as the Melted Witch Cookies. They are seriously the best sugar cookie recipe ever.

The maple frosting is a delicious addition. The frosting is not overly sweet, but is packed with maple brown sugar flavors.

These are great cookies to be served with an afternoon espresso or hot chocolate on a cold winter’s day.

Buttermilk Sugar Cookies with Maple Frosting

Buttermilk Sugar Cookies with Maple Frosting

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 1 3/4 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons buttermilk or cream
  • Frosting
  • 1/2 cup softened butter (1 stick)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup Pure Maple Syrup
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. In a bowl beat together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add egg and vanilla and beat until combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda and powder and salt, mix to combine.
  4. Gradually add flour to butter/sugar and mix until just combined.
  5. Add buttermilk or cream and mix again, until just combined.
  6. On a parchment lined baking sheet, roll out dough balls and space about 2in apart.
  7. Bake at 375 for 10 minutes.
  8. For the Frosting
  9. Combine all ingredients in your mixer, and beat in medium until combined.
  10. Once combine turn your mixer on high and beat for about 4 minutes.
  11. Frost cooled cookies and allow to dry for at least 1 hour before putting away.
  12. Or, serve immediately.
